Will Avril Quit Singing to be an Actress?
Over the past couple of days I've been seeing more and more news sites reporting that Avril wants to quit singing and concentrate on being an actress. I believe it's all coming from an interview or report in a recent issue of Britain's TV Hits magazine.But one news site's headline says "Avril Lavigne wants to ditch music for an acting career" and another site writes "Alternative pop star Avril Lavigne has revealed that she is tired of singing and is ready to start applying her talents to acting." !
But although many of those news sites are pretty much saying she is QUITTING singing altogether and will ONLY act, there is no actual quote from Avril where she says that exactly. Plus I remember reading recently that she said she's about to start writing for her next album (and that involves singing, right?!). :)
The only new quotes I have seen in these stories is:
"I've had a singing career for five years. I'm ready to try out new stuff and have some fun."Which is true. She probably DOES want to try some new stuff along with singing. Everybody likes to try new stuff. :)
She also says:
"I like more serious roles. I can see myself in something like 'Girl Interrupted'.So none of that means she's quitting singing, imo.
"I would enjoy doing a film on the darker side, something serious with depth. I'm good at expressing myself and getting all my emotions out."
Plus all the "news" sites I've seen reporting this are only mentioning that she did the voice for Heather the possum in "Over the Hedge".
None of them seem to have done enough research to also say she's already filmed scenes for "Fast Food Nation" and had a small role in "The Flock"!
I'll keep looking around and report here if I see anything new about this. But for now I don't think us Avril music fans need to start worrying yet. :)
UPDATE:
I re-found an article about Avril over at MTV.com that was dated May 10 (so, only like a month ago) where she talks about her 3rd album...
Lavigne has made time to lay down tracks for a new album that will reflect the various life changes (including an engagement to Sum 41's Deryck Whibley) that have taken place since 2004's Under My Skin.So it sounds a lot like Avril is NOT quitting singing to ONLY be an actress! :)
"I'm working on my third record; I'm in the writing process right now," she reported. "It'll be different. Of course it will sound like me, but I'm evolving."
"I don't want to say too much about it, because I'm still writing it," Lavigne explained. "I don't want to say it's going to be like this, and then it's not. It's just going to be a really fun record and, um, maybe a little more positive."
